Tatyana Merzlyakova is the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) in Sverdlovsk region. She will take part in the elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan as an observer.
UzA Correspondent Nazokat Usmanova interviewed Tatyana Merzlyakova about the electoral process in the country.
“The study of the conditions created at polling stations for the exercise of the right to vote of persons with disabilities should always be under the control of the Commissioner for Human Rights”, said T. Merzlyakova.
– After all, the voter must realize his political rights regardless of his physical capabilities. In addition, the participation of the Ombudsman is very important in ensuring the rights of prisoners who also have electoral rights.
This is my second visit to Uzbekistan as an observer. In the previous parliamentary elections, I observed the activities of polling stations and the course of voting in Bukhara region and returned with good impressions, having given my positive conclusion on their organization and conduction.
We can say that Uzbekistan is moving only forward. Therefore, I believe that this year’s presidential elections will also be held at the level of international requirements.
