Uzbek athletes return from Singapore

Sportsmen of Uzbekistan won nine medals, including three silver and six bronze ones, at the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.

Representatives of various ministries and departments, sportsmen, media and sport lovers welcomed the sports delegation of Uzbekistan at the Tashkent international airport.

More than 3,000 young people aged 14 to 18 from many countries fought for 184 sets of medals in 31 kinds of sports at the Singapore Olympiad.

Uzbekistan was represented by 21 sportsmen, which competed in rhythmic and sport gymnastics, taekwondo, track and field athletics, judo, boxing, table tennis, shooting, swimming, heavy athletics, freestyle, Greek-Roman and women’s wrestling.

Three of the Uzbek athletes – Greek-Roman wrestler Nurbek Haqqulov, judoist Mansur Muminkhodjayev and boxer Ahmadjon Mamajanov – won silver medals.

Mansur Muminkhodjayev also won a bronze medal on the last day of the Games. Other bronze winners are Greek-Roman wrestler Ruslan Komilov, freestyle wrestler Diyorbek Ergashev, Nulafar Gadoyeva in women’s wrestling and boxers Sardorbek Begaliyev and Zahidjan Khurbayev.
