On December 24 this year, elections to the district Councils of people’s deputies of the city of Tashkent will be held. The election campaign began on September 23 according to the resolution of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan of September 15, 2017. This political process is being gradually implemented on the basis of the Program of measures on conducting elections to the district Councils of people’s deputies of the city of Tashkent, approved by the resolution of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On organizational measures of conducting elections to the district Councils of people’s deputies of the city of Tashkent”.

This was discussed at a briefing that was held at the National Press Center, organized in order to inform voters about the process of elections to the district Councils of people’s deputies of the city of Tashkent.

According to the chairman of the city election commission on conducting elections to the district Councils of people’s deputies of the city of Tashkent Hamid Karimov, the election campaign is in full swing. According to the program, relevant district election commissions, established in Tashkent, held their meetings on registration of candidates for deputies until November 19. The announcement on registration will be announced in the local press in the coming days.

The pre-election campaign of candidates for deputies begins on the day of their registration. According to the resolution of the Central Election Commission “On pre-election campaign of candidates for deputies to the district Councils of people’s deputies of the city of Tashkent” of November 16, 2017, a schedule was approved for the provision of a free airtime for conduction by candidates of pre-election campaign on “Toshkent” channel of the National TV and Radio Company of Uzbekistan, free print space for representatives of political parties and civil society institutions in “Toshkent okshomi” – “Vecherniy Tashkent” (“Tashkent evening”) newspapers, during the election campaign to the district Councils of people’s deputies of the city of Tashkent.

All political parties and civil society institutions, participating in the elections, nominated one candidate in 330 electoral districts, organized in 11 districts of Tashkent.

Based on the requirements of the electoral legislation, women make up more than 30 percent of the total number of nominated candidates for deputies from political parties.
