UzA, 10 December 2009, 08:50

In accordance with the Cabinet of Ministers’ decision, the road safety month will be held in Uzbekistan during 10 December – 10 January.

According to head of the Main Road Safety Department of the Interior Ministry Aziz Inoyatov, the measures aimed at reduction of the road traffic accidents have been giving their results.

The number of the traffic accidents over the past 11 months of the year has decreased compared to the same period of last year. However, this figure is still high, which is causing serious concerns, he said.

As a result of the traffic accidents, 2,015 people died this year, and 10,484 received various bodily injuries, Aziz Inoyatov said.

The regular road safety months aim to decrease the number of traffic accidents and increase the efficiency of the road safety measures.

A number of measures will be held during the month, including inspection of roads sections and crossroads with heavy traffic.

A special attention will be paid to teaching the children the road safety rules. A large number of road accidents this year – 1,717 – involved children. As a result, 261 children died and 1,541 received bodily injuries.

The staff of the road safety department will hold meetings and various events with participation of children at schools, kindergartens and other places.

According to Aziz Inoyatov, among the most widespread violations of the traffic rules are exceeding the speed limit, ignoring the road signs, driving in a drunken state and others.
