On July 12, 2018, Tashkent will host a round table dedicated to discussion of the UN General Assembly Resolution “Strengthening regional and international cooperation to ensure peace, stability and sustainable development in the Central Asian region”.

On July 12, 2018, Tashkent will host a round table dedicated to discussion of the UN General Assembly Resolution “Strengthening regional and international cooperation to ensure peace, stability and sustainable development in the Central Asian region”.

The event will be organized by the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the assistance of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

According to the organizers, the round table will be attended by members of the Senate and deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, relevant ministries, JSC “Uzbekiston temir yollari” (Uzbekistan Railways), Academy of Sciences, international organizations, heads of diplomatic missions of foreign countries in Tashkent.

It was noted that the main goal of the round table is to discuss the essence and significance of the UN GA resolution in development of the Central Asian region, as well as determination of prospects for strengthening regional and international cooperation to ensure peace, stability and sustainable development in Central Asia.

The Resolution “Strengthening regional and international cooperation to ensure peace, stability and sustainable development in the Central Asian region” was adopted on June 22, 2018 at the plenary session of the UN General Assembly. This document, unanimously supported by all UN member states, is a practical embodiment of the initiative forwarded by the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly held in New York, in September 2017.

The Resolution notes the importance of strengthening security in Central Asia, effective and integrated use of drinking water, mitigating the environmental and socio-economic consequences associated with the drying up of the Aral Sea, organization of a modern transport system and transit in the region, development of bilateral and regional cooperation in the areas of education, science, technology, innovation, tourism, culture, art and sports.
