Digital TV tuners production launched in NavoiUzA, 2 September 2010, 19:10 Telecom Innovations joint venture launched a plant producing digital TV set-top-boxes in Navoi free industrial-economic zone at the end of August. The investment project was implemented by the Uzbek Agency for Communication and Information in accordance with the President’s resolution of 12 March 2009, which approved the most important projects of modernization and technological reequipent of production for 2009-2014. Telecom Innovations JV was set up by Singapore’s Servetechno, Uzbektelecom and Telmax Elektroniks (Uzbekistan) to satisfy the demand of the population in digital TV set-top-boxes. The total cost of the project made up UZS 6.8 billion. The sources of financing were funds of the Uzbek founders and credits from the ICT Development Fund of Uzbekistan. The new plant will produce over 50,000 set-top-boxes per year. The device allows receiving digital TV programs to the ordinary TV set. Uzbekistan is set to complete transfer to terrestrial digital TV broadcasting by 2015. Currently digital TV programs are available to subscribers in Tashkent and Bukhara.
